Berg blow for Hampshire

Hampshire all-rounder Gareth Berg could miss up to half of the season after having surgery on his knee following an injury he picked up last month.

The 35-year-old was an integral member of Hampshire’s County Championship side last season, playing all 16 matches.

He sustained the injury whilst playing against Nottinghamshire during a pre-season tour to Barbados in March.

Berg said on Twitter “I will do my best, and be out there fighting for us again soon.”

He took 42 wickets in the County Championship last year, as well as scoring 672 runs at an average of 32.

Hampshire ensured their status in Division One with a last-day victory at Trent Bridge and the injury blow to Berg will be a set-back as they seek to build on that late-season success.

Their campaign gets underway against Ian Bell’s Warwickshire at the Ageas Bowl on Sunday.
