Chris Gayle, on just the second day of the World T20, came to his elements. On the receiving end of his wrath was England, as the tall West Indies player struck 11 sixes on way of becoming the first man to hit two Twenty20I tons on Wednesday. According to Sunil Gavaskar, this is not a good sign for the other teams. “Chris Gayle is very hungry. This is not a good sign for the rival teams. He single-handedly made West Indies’ 183-run chase ridiculously easy. When the asking-rate is above nine, no matter what format you are playing it’s always tough, but not for Gayle,” Gavaskar told NDTV. Gayle’s unbeaten 100 saw West Indies cruise to a six-wicket win over England to be well-placed in their group.
The former India captain opined that the criticism that Gayle faces for being a not-so-good player during chases was not justified after this innings.
“People who say this have no idea about what Chris Gayle can do. Nobody is a perfect player. Everybody has some fault or the other. He is the first man to hit two international hundreds and is a star of West Indies team, which is full of players who are doing well in T20 leagues around the world,” Gavaskar said.
