Kraigg Brathwaite reached his seventh Test hundred as West Indies moved their lead to 228 at lunch on the second day. He remained unbeaten on 121 along with Shai Hope who was unbeaten on 14. Abu Jayed took the only wicket to fall in the session when he sent nightwatchman Devendra Bishoo’s off stump cartwheeling for 19 off 79 balls.

Braithwaite and Bishoo had added 52 runs in 21.4 overs, keeping Bangladesh’s attack at bay in the first hour. Brathwaite needed 20 balls in the morning session to reach his century; the landmark came when he guided Kamrul Islam Rabbi over gully for four.

Bangladesh could have removed Bishoo on 14 when he was trapped in front by Rubel Hossain, who found swing with the second new ball, but Shakib Al Hasan decided not to review the on-field umpire’s not-out decision. But four overs later, Kamrul cleaned up Bishoo, much to Bangladesh’s relief.

Kamrul and Rubel bowled with zest with the second new ball but could not make further inroads into the West Indies line-up. Brathwaite also had a nervy moment when Liton Das dropped a difficult catch at leg gully off Javed to reprieve the batsman on 110.

Brathwaite, however, shook that off and added an unbroken 25 with Hope to see his side through to lunch.
