Chris Lynn‘s latest shoulder injury will not require surgery. The development, confirmed by his manager Stephen Atkinson on Friday, brightens the batsman’s chances of recovering in time for the Indian Premier League. Kolkata Knight Riders, who signed Lynn for USD 1.5 million, will play their first match of the tournament on April 8.
Lynn has had a history of shoulder dislocations, the latest of which occurred when he dived on the field during Australia’s T20 tri-series final victory against New Zealand on Wednesday. In trying to protect his left shoulder – which has been operated upon three times in recent seasons – he dived to his left while going for the ball with his right arm, and ended up dislocating that shoulder.
The injury ruled Lynn out of the Pakistan Super League, which began on Thursday. He may be able to return sooner than feared, however, after specialists in Brisbane looked into the extent of damage to his shoulder and ruled that he wouldn’t need to go under the knife.
“Chris got a positive result from the doctors who said he will not need surgery,” Atkinson said. “Chris is disappointed at missing the Pakistan Super League but he will be making every effort to play in the Indian Premier League and, if selected, the five one-dayers for Australia in England in June.”
