Multan Sultans, the newest franchise in the Pakistan Super League, has appointed Tom Moody, the former Australia allrounder, as its head coach. Moody will now coach in three T20 leagues concurrently – he is also head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League and of Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League.
Moody, who played eight Tests and 76 ODIs in a career that stretched from 1987 to 1999, has also coached Sri Lanka and Western Australia, and has held director of cricket roles at Worcestershire and Melbourne Renegades. In June, he was one of six candidates to interview for the job of India head coach, which eventually went to Ravi Shastri.
“I believe in Tom we have found the ideal man for this role,” Asher Schon, the Multan Sultans director, said during the team’s kit unveiling ceremony on Friday. “He possesses years of coaching experience with various franchises which enables him to play a crucial role in nurturing young talent and player development.”
At Multan, Moody will work alongside Wasim Akram, who has taken over as the team’s director of cricket.
