Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun gave an injury scare to England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow ahead of the first Test against South Africa at Lord’s. Arjun, who is 17-years old, was bowling during England’s practice session ahead of the series opener. The left-arm seamer’s first delivery was a yorker, which ended up being a toe-crusher for Bairstow. The wicketkeeper was pinned on the foot, according to a report by Daily Mail.
Bairstow was taken out of the nets after facing only one delivery from the youngster. There is, however, no danger reported as the 27-year old was provided with immediate first-aid, with his foot being placed in a compression unit. He was relieved of pain and there was no threat to his participation at Lord’s.
Arjun has appeared for the Mumbai Under-14 and 16 teams. The all-rounder’s father Sachin owns a property near the historic venue and this is not the first time he has rolled his arm over to the English batsmen.
England take on South Africa on Thursday at Lord’s. England would be led by Joe Root, who took on captaincy from Alastair Cook earlier this year while Dean Elgar will lead South Africa in the absence of Faf du Plessis. This will be the first of the four-Test series, which was preceded by a three-T20I series and three ODIs. England won the T20 rubber and ODI series 2-1. It remains to be seen whether Arjun bowling to English batters will become a usual affair.
