Toss New Zealand chose to bowl vs England
New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl first in the second T20I against England at Hove.
England, leading 1-0 in the three-match series after an emphatic 46-run victory in the opener at Chelmsford on Wednesday, are again without captain Heather Knight, who suffered a hamstring injury during training on Monday and missed the first match. She is hopeful of playing in the third match, at Taunton on Thursday. Nat Sciver will lead the side in her place.
Katherine Brunt is also out for the home side after pulling up tight from the first match, meaning Freya Davies comes into the side.
Maia Bouchier will make her debut, having been called up to the England squad along with the uncapped Charlie Dean before both were ruled out of consideration for the first match after being identified as possible Covid contacts.
New Zealand named an unchanged side with Knight’s opposite number, Sophie Devine, becoming the third woman to play 100 T20 internationals for New Zealand, joining team-mates Amy Satterthwaite and Suzie Bates. Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor are the only men to have reached the milestone for New Zealand.
“Perspective is something that’s really important to me, and for me to be able to step back and to look back on my career and the opportunities that I’ve been given, I think it’s really humbling to be in a position to be able to play a hundred times for my country and it’s something I don’t take for granted,” Devine said.
