Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler Ali Khan is injured but is not out of the tournament, contrary to an IPL release from Tuesday. The release had said he was “injured and will miss the rest of the season”, without specifying the nature of the injury.
However, ESPNCricinfo understands that Khan had suffered a side injury, but is doing rehab currently with the Knight Riders camp. It is learnt that he has been training with the team.
Khan, the first USA player to take part in the IPL, had replaced Harry Gurney at the Knight Riders last month after the England player was ruled out following a shoulder injury. Khan had made the trip to the UAE after helping Trinbago Knight Riders – owned by the same parent company as KKR – win CPL 2020. Khan hits speeds of more than 140kph and often bowls in the slog overs, and is known, in particular, for having a good yorker.
