The BCCI has called off India’s tours of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, scheduled for June and August respectively, owing to the “threat” of the Covid-19 pandemic. India were scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for three ODIs and as many T20Is starting June 24, and then to Zimbabwe for three ODIs starting August 22.
The BCCI’s definitive stance came a day after Sri Lanka Cricket said it was still hopeful of hosting India in August.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced that the Indian Cricket Team will not travel to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe owing to the current threat of COVID-19,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a media release on Friday.
The BCCI’s decision means India are unlikely to travel to South African at the end of August to play three T20Is, a series that was proposed by Cricket South Africa recently. At the time the BCCI had not given any commitment, but told CSA that if there were no quarantine restrictions, India could think of playing the series after the Zimbabwe tour.
