Ishant Sharma advised 'six weeks' rest, likely to miss New Zealand tour

India fast bowler Ishant Sharma has been advised six weeks’ rest after a grade three tear in his ankle while playing the Ranji Trophy. This puts in doubt the 31-year old’s participation in the upcoming tour of New Zealand. India play two Tests there, the first of which begins on February 21.

Sharma suffered the injury on Monday playing for Delhi against Vidarbha at the Feroz Shah Kotla. He was immediately taken out of the game and was assessed by a local specialist who confirmed the grade three tear and advised six weeks’ rest. Sharma is now expected to go to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for rehabilitation.
