Pakistan opt to bowl without Sarfraz in the side; Tahir replaces Shamsi

Toss Pakistan opt to bowl v South Africa

Pakistan won the toss in the fourth one-day international, but it was Shoaib Malik rather than Sarfraz Ahmed present at the toss, with news filtering through that Sarfraz has been suspended for four matches.

Without him, stand-in captain Shoaib Malik called correctly at the toss and opted to bowl first in the annual PinkDay feature at the Wanderers. Safraz’ absence enforced one change for Pakistan, with Mohammad Rizwan coming in to replace him, and the visitors also made a second change to their line-up, with left-arm seamer Usman Shinwari coming into the attack in place of Hasan Ali.

There was only one change for the hosts as they look to wrap up the series after securing a 2-1 lead with their 13-run D/L win on Friday. Tabraiz Shamsi will sit this one out, replaced by Imran Tahir, who averages 22.57 with the ball at this ground.

With short square boundaries and a flat, hard track to contend with, Tahir has his work cut out for him, as do all the bowlers in what is expected to be a high-scoring encounter. This is the seventh PinkDay encounter, and South Africa have never lost one of these games. In his 100th ODI, Quinton de Kock’s first job will be to get his team off to a quick start.

South Africa: 1 Hashim Amla, 2 Quinton de Kock, 3 Reeza Hendricks, 4 Faf du Plessis (capt), 5 Rassie van der Dussen, 6 David Miller, 7 Andile Phehlukwayo, 8 Kagiso Rabada, 9 Dale Steyn, 10 Beuran Hendricks, 11 Imran Tahir

Pakistan: 1 Imam-ul-Haq, 2 Fakhar Zaman, 3 Babar Azam, 4 Mohammad Hafeez, 5 Shoaib Malik (capt), 6 Mohammad Rizwan, 7 Shadab Khan, 8 Imad Wasim, 9 Mohammad Amir, 10 Usman Shinwari, 11 Shaheen Shah Afridi
