Uncapped wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and left-arm legspinning-sensation Kuldeep Yadav have been picked in India’s 18-man squad for the first three Tests. While Rohit Sharma was dropped after playing two Tests in South Africa earlier this year, Karun Nair was slotted in and so was fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who cleared a fitness test recently after missing the Afghanistan Test because he wasn’t able to clear the yo-yo test last month.

Jasprit Bumrah will be avalailble from the second Test onwards, whereas Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who “aggravated a lower back condition” in the third ODI against England on Tuesday, will be assessed by the BCCI medical team and a decision on his inclusion will be made soon, a BCCI release said. Uncapped quick Shardul Thakur found a place in the side after he also played in the third ODI.
