A terrific all-round performance from Mohsin Ilyas was enough to see Al Shabaz over the line against Ali Gladiator on Tuesday in the 8-a-side Sprite indoor tournament. Put into bat by Ali Gladiators, Al Shabaz were zero for seven in four overs, thanks to tight bowling from Umar and Zubair, who took four wickets in an over.
However Nadeem and Noman batted sensibly to recover from there, scoring 16 runs between them. They helped set the Ali Gladiators 18 to win.
It felt like the runs weren’t enough and will be chased down quite comfortably by the Gladiators, Mohsin Ilyas bowled a brilliant second over, where he managed to take four wickets with his spin and brought the score down to -14. Al Shabaz, who were playing their first match in this format, pumped up their performance with some great fielding, taking couple of brilliant low diving catches and running out the Gladiators six times. Gladiators couldn’t recover as they lost wickets in regular intervals and couldn’t hit the boundaries required. The tail wagged, but they couldn’t score what seemed an achievable target.
