Pakistan batswomen disappoint women wing secretary

The secretary of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s women wing, Shamsha Hashmi, has expressed disappointment over performance of country’s batswomen in a crucial match of the women World Cup against India.

The secretary of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s women wing, Shamsha Hashmi, has expressed disappointment over performance of country’s batswomen in a crucial match of the women World Cup against India.

Talking to Dawn, Shamsha, also a former Pakistan women team captain, said her bowlers, especially Diana Baig, bowled well and restricted India to a getable total of 169. But Pakistan’s batswomen, especially the senior lot, fell like a house of cards on just 74 runs.

The secretary added that Diana had proved her talent but at the same time senior players showed no maturity and performed below par.

She said Pakistan missed a golden opportunity of defeating India and now it looked difficult for the green-shirts to progress to the next round as their upcoming matches are against tough sides like Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and West Indies.

Shamsha said they were considering a plan to induct young blood into the side and for that two selectors will soon go to Gilgit-Baltistan to unearth talent there.
