Agarkar: Bangladesh need to step up with the bat
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson decided to bat first against Bangladesh in a must-win match for both sides. The start had been delayed by an hour due to overnight and early morning rain in Cardiff, but no overs were lost.
Williamson said that the dry nature of the pitch influenced his decision. New Zealand retained the same team that had lost to England on Tuesday, which meant Tom Latham, Colin de Grandhomme, Jeetan Patel and Mitchell McClenaghan were all left out.
Mashrafe said that Bangladesh would have bowled first, given that they recalled Taskin Ahmed, in place of Imrul Kayes, to make it a four-man pace attack. They offset the loss of one batsman by adding another down the order as Mosaddek Hossain replaced Mehedi Hasan.
