‘No pressure against Pakistan’ – AB de Villiers

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat at Edgbaston, where they fielded a XI unchanged from the one that beat Sri Lanka in their opening game of the Champions Trophy.

“The pitch might get slow but I don’t think it’s going to get much turn,” de Villiers said at the toss. The forecast for the game was better than most of the other match days of this tournament, which have been overcast and wet.

Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed confirmed that they would have preferred batting first, too, but said they aimed to bowl South Africa out quickly. They make two changes: Junaid Khan replaced the injured Wahab Riaz, and Fakhar Zaman took Ahmed Shehzad’s spot at the top of the order.

Pakistan are in a must-win situation, after they were beaten comprehensively by India in their first game, meaning their run rate was by far the worst of any side in their group.
