What is the chink in Warner’s armour?
Despite a forecast for heavy rain around 6 PM, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza decided to bat first against Australia at The Oval. He said the pitch was good for batting, and it was a straightforward decision in a “do-or-die” game.
Steven Smith said he would have batted first too, considering it was a used pitch. He also wanted to use the gloomy overhead conditions in London. Australia made a horses-for-courses change, picking legspinner Adam Zampa over seam-bowling allrounder John Hastings.
Bangladesh chose to strengthen their bowling by bringing in Mehedi Hasan for batsman Mosaddek Hossain.
Australia: 1 David Warner, 2 Aaron Finch, 3 Steven Smith (capt), 4 Moises Henriques, 5 Glenn Maxwell, 6 Travis Head, 7 Matthew Wade (wk), 8 Mitchell Starc, 9 Pat Cummins, 10 Adam Zampa, 11 Josh Hazlewood
Bangladesh: 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Soumya Sarkar, 3 Imrul Kayes, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 5 Mahmudullah, 6 Shakib Al Hasan, 7 Sabbir Rahman, 8 Mehedi Hasan, 9 Mashrafe Mortaza (capt), 10 Rubel Hossain, 11 Mustafizur Rahman
