Gazi Group Cricketers registered their fifth successive win by beating Abahani, the defending champions, by 25 runs.
Batting first, Gazi were propped up by a 93-run fourth wicket stand between Anamul Haque (97) and Parvez Rasool, the India allrounder, who made 91. Nadif Chowdhury, the captain, finished with a 34-ball 41 to take them to 282 for 9 in 50 overs.
Liton Das and Saif Hassan added 55 for the first wicket in Abahani’s chase, but fell in the space of six deliveries to hurt their chances. When Shuvagata Hom fell in the 28th over, Abahani were in trouble at 139 for 5. Afif Hossain struck an unbeaten 76 to get them close, but a middle order collapse left them shortchanged.
They were eventually bowled out for 257 runs in 48.1 overs, with Alauddin Babum the medium pacer, taking three wickets.
Rafatullah Mohmand’s seventh List-A century and Al-Amin Hossain’s five-wicket haul set up Prime Bank Cricket Club’s fifth win on the trot as as they outclassed Legends of Rupganj by 66 runs. The win also meant Prime Bank were joint-toppers with Gazi.
The Pakistan batsman struck 10 fours and six sixes in his 128 off 125 balls as Prime Bank posted 284 for 6. Rafatullah added 92 runs for the fifth wicket with Asif Ahmed to prop up the score.
Rupganj started poorly, losing four wickets inside the first three overs before Naeem Islam took control. He made 95 to salvage the situation, but lack of contributions from the lower order meant they folded for 218 in the final over. Al-Amin’s 5 for 49 was his third five-for in list-A cricket.
A run-out in the last over broke the hearts of Kalabagan Krira Chakra as they fell short by one run against Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club. The last-wicket pair of Sahid Hasan and Nabil Samad added 16, but succumbed under pressure in the final over, off which they needed four to pull off a chase of 203.
Nabil got two off the first ball to bring the equation to two off five deliveries, before the last wicket fell to cap off a thriller. Kalabagan were cruising at one stage, courtesy Tasmul Haque’s 89. But his dismissal in the 41st over turned things around as they lost five more wickets in less than seven overs.
For Prime Doleshwar, Farhad Reza and Sharifullah took three wickets each while Arafat Sunny picked up two. Their batting efforts were spearheaded by Jaker Ali’s 44-ball 38 that gave impetus to an innings that otherwise crawled for most parts.
