AB de Villiers got the chance to make an almost-immediate impact on comeback after Farhaan Behardien decided to set Sri Lanka a target in the series decider at Newlands. De Villers slotted in at No. 3 in the South Africa line-up, after a new opening combination – Reeza Hendricks was brought into the XI, displacing Heino Kuhn, while Theunis de Bruyn had to make way for de Villiers.

South Africa’s other change came in the attack, where they gave Dane Paterson a debut in a pack that includes four quicks and one specialist spinner. Aaron Phangiso missed out.

Sri Lanka had one change from the XI that squared the series in Johannesburg. Upul Tharanga replaced Angelo Mathews, who has been forced out of the tour with injury. Although Tharanga will captain the ODIs, Dinesh Chandimal led the side in the final T20. Sri Lanka stuck to a two seamer-two spinner attack with Lakshan Sandakan, who took four wickets on debut, keeping his spot and Suranga Lakmal rested again.
