New Zealand conceded their second-biggest total after opting to field as Bangladesh declared on 595 for 8 on the third morning in Wellington.
The eighth wicket pair of Sabbir Rahman and Taskin Ahmed survived the first half hour of play, but only just. Trent Boult, in the 144th over, induced a false shot from Sabbir with a short ball from around the wicket, but the top edge was shelled at mid-on by Tom Latham. Two balls later, Neil Wagner broke the 24-run partnership as he had Taskin edging to second slip. It was his fourth wicket of the innings.
Sabbir completed a half-century off 85 balls, farming the strike with the tail and getting the boundaries his team needed. There were suggestions that Bangladesh should have called the innings to a close earlier than they did. But considering they have rarely been in positions where they could effectively take out the possibility of them losing an overseas Test, it was perhaps understandable. Besides, they went along at a run-rate of 3.31 as they added 53 runs in 16 overs.
