Sabbir Rahman will be fit for the second Test against England, which begins on October 28, according to Bangladesh physio Bayjidul Islam. Sabbir will join training at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday to prepare for the game.
Sabbir, who debuted in the first Test in Chittagong and made a half-century during the chase, had a fever throughout the match. He also went off the field during England’s second innings, having been hit in the head while batting. Then, upon arrival in Dhaka, Sabbir was taken to the Apollo Hospital where he underwent an endoscopy on Wednesday because of a stomach pain that was not subsiding. Bayjid said that it was an ulcer, but it was nothing serious.
“Sabbir had been suffering from gastric-related problems for quite some time,” Bayjidul said. “He had stomach pain, so we kept him under observation in Chittagong where he visited a doctor. There had been some findings but when he underwent the endoscopy at the Apollo Hospital, there wasn’t anything serious in it.
“It is a normal gastric problem – peptic ulcer. The doctor has advised him for some dietary changes. Since he did the endoscopy today, he has been told to take the day off. He can start training from tomorrow. The good news is that the pain has also reduced. He will get better.”
The Bangladesh selectors had called up Mosaddek Hossain as cover for the ill Sabbir.
