Gujarat Lions, the early pace-setters with two wins in as many matches , opted to bowl against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. They made one change with local boy Dhawal Kulkarni replacing Ravindra Jadeja, who is on a break for his marriage. “Dhawal has been doing extremely well in domestic cricket,” Lions captain Suresh Raina said. “The boys have played well in the first two games. We hope to carry out form into this game.”

Mumbai Indians handed a debut to Krunal Pandya, older brother of Hardik, who was bought at the auction for INR 2 crores. J Suchith, the left-arm spinner, who conceded 31 runs in two wicketless overs against Kolkata Knight Riders was left out.

“We have come back from defeats before. So having a perfect game like we had in Kolkata was the icing on the cake,” Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai captain, said. “That’s the momentum we wanted. We would have fielded as well, considering its a high-scoring ground and possibly the dew factor coming in later.”

With one win and a loss, in the IPL opener to Rising Pune Supergiants, Mumbai Indians are currently placed in the bottom half of the points table.
