Ben Duckett was left stranded 18 runs short of a triple century after a wet outfield on the final morning saw Northamptonshire’s Specsavers County Championship Division Two clash with Sussex at Wantage Road abandoned as a draw.
Duckett had advanced to 282 not out in a Northants total of 481 for seven until rain washed out the final session on day two and the whole of day three.
And the left-handed opening batsman was unable to add to his tally on the final day as further overnight rain added to the dampness of the outfield and play was called off following a 10am inspection.
Northants took nine points from the game compared to Sussex’s six.
