Wilson and Butler steer EWA to victory

Fran Wilson continued her excellent form with the bat as England Women’s Academy beat Australia A by 65 runs to make it three wins from three on their tour of Sri Lanka.

Having seen off Sri Lanka A by 75 runs in their opening fixture and beaten Australia A by seven wickets on Tuesday, England completed a hat-trick of victories despite being bowled out for 200.

Wilson, who made a century against Sri Lanka, hit 69 from 70 balls and shared a crucial stand of 113 for the third wicket with Georgia Adams, who became one of Hayleigh Brennan’s four wickets one shy of her half-century.

Kate Cross added a valuable 35, but there was little resistance from England’s tail as they were bowled out with 5.1 overs unused.

The Shooting Stars looked to be on top as Bridget Patterson and Sophie Molineux added 64 for the first wicket, but once they fell in quick succession to Alex Hartley and Freya Davies respectively England seized the initiative.

Stephanie Butler took 4-35 with her off-spin as Australia were bowled out for 135 in just 33.3 overs to maintain England’s 100 per cent record.
