London: South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris will play for Surrey in this season’s domestic Twenty20 Blast, the English county announced Friday.
Morris will replace the West Indies’ Dwayne Bravo, due to play in the Caribbean Premier League, in July and will be available for the final six group matches.
The 28-year-old Morris was involved in South Africa’s recent 2-0 Twenty20 series win at home to England.
His 17 not out off seven balls in the first of the two-match series in Cape Town on February 19 took the Proteas to a three-wicket victory and came just a week after his match-winning 62 off 38 balls in the fourth one-day international.
“I am delighted to have signed for Surrey to play T20 this year,” said Morris in a statement on The Oval-based county’s website.
“Playing county cricket has always been a big ambition of mine.”
Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart, the former England captain, added: “Chris is an exciting, three-dimensional cricketer with bat, ball and in the field and has shown his match-winning abilities in the recent South Africa v England 50-over and T20 series.
“He will give us a number of very good options when he joins us in July and everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming him this summer.”
