Jason Roy has filmed his first video diary from South Africa and it is a must-watch for any fan who wants to get into the mind of an opening batsmen.
Watching a replay of an over from South Africa speedster Marchant de Lange during last week’s warm-up match, Roy runs us through what he was thinking before every ball and the importance of sharing information with opening partner Alex Hales.
The Surrey right-hander reveals what areas he is looking to attack in the opening overs, how assessing the pitch can dictate which strokes he is looking to play and the need to gather his thoughts and “chill” when at the non-striker’s end
It is an interesting insight into how a limited-overs batsman operates complete with some light-hearted commentary on Hales’ advice for playing the short ball and a self-deprecating assessment of a “filthy hack”.
