Ben Stokes’ exploits in South Africa have seen him top this winter’s Test MVP after he scored 499 runs and took 17 wickets against the Proteas.
The Durham all-rounder blasted 258 from 198 balls in Cape Town and backed up that performance with bat and ball throughout the series as England emerged 2-1 winners.
That took Stokes’ MVP tally to 161 across seven Tests, with most of his scoring unsurprisingly done with the bat, with which he picked up 90 points.
Stokes is only six points behind Joe Root in the overall MVP Rankings, despite having missed all the ODIs and T20s in the UAE because of a shoulder injury sustained in the last Test against Pakistan.
Stuart Broad is a further five points back and given his re-selection in the one-day squads will be a real contender for this campaign’s MVP crown. Moeen Ali is the only other multi-format player in the overall running.
