Team India star batter Virat Kohli was dismissed for a low score during the second ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand. The 37-year-old’s dismissal brought back instant flashbacks of the 2023 ODI World Cup Final against Australia in Ahmedabad, as Kohli got out in a very similar fashion.
Michael Bracewell won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Niranjan Shah Stadium on Wednesday, January 14. India made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Nitish Kumar Reddy in place of the injured Washington Sundar. Virat and Shreyas Iyer helped India secure a win in the first ODI.
Virat Kohli Clean Bowled by Kristian Clarke in Rajkot ODI
The dismissal came on 23.3 overs, when Kristian Clarke bowled a delivery in the channel that stayed a touch low. Virat Kohli tried to guide the ball for a single, but the line was too close to his body.
The right-handed batter got an inside edge, and the ball rolled back onto the stumps. The crowd fell silent as Kohli walked back for 23 off 29 balls, including two fours.
This marked the first time in six ODI innings that Kohli was dismissed for less than 50. Clarke picked up his third wicket, and India slipped from 99/1 to 118/4, handing New Zealand strong momentum in the match.
