ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 Points Table after ENG vs NZ 3rd Test

New Zealand secure No.3 position in ICC WTC table: The England vs New Zealand third and final Test match has concluded as the Kiwis have defeated the Three Lions at Trent Bridge by 160 runs. The victory in England snapped a massive 27-year drought. Their win at Trent Bridge marked their first away series triumph in England containing three or more tests since 1999.

Tom Latham has now won a Test series in England and India as a captain. Under his leadership, the Kiwis became the first visiting team to whitewash India 3-0 in a three-match Test series on their home soil, which was part of the ICC WTC cycle. He joins an elite club, becoming only the sixth captain to win overseas Test series in both India and England.

England batters crumbled on Day 4

On the final day of the third and deciding Test, England were 103-4, needing 270 more runs in an apparently hopeless chase of 373 to win on a deteriorating ground at Trent Bridge. All hopes appeared to be on Joe Root, who started at 9 not out, and Emilio Gay (6 not out) in the middle, the only specialist batters left for England.

However, Joe Root could not trouble the scorers much as he was out on the score of 18 runs, adding just 9 more runs on Day 5 from his overnight score. Emilio Gay was back for just 10 runs. The home side had a change in the batting order after Ben Stokes announced his retirement on Sunday.

Jamie Smith fight ends in vain as England stays 7th in ICC points table

Ben Stokes opened with Ben Duckett instead of Gay. This came as a shock, as the English captain scored 30 off 20 deliveries and was back in the pavilion. Duckett scored 36 runs off 42 deliveries. Vice-captain Harry Brook also departed for 21 runs. England nearly lost the match on Day 4 itself losing four wickets inside 100 runs.

Later on, Jamie Smith and Gus Atkinson stitched a 75-run partnership for the 7th wicket. The latter was dismissed on 19 runs; Jofra Archer followed for two runs, and so was Joshua Tongue. Smith was the final wicket to fall on the score of 60 runs as England lost the series 2-1. It’s the first time that Kiwis have bounced back to claim a three-match series after losing the first one.

New Zealand secure third position in ICC WTC table

After the loss, there has been no change in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-207 table. As New Zealand stayed at no. 3 despite securing a thumping win with 72.22% PCT. England also did not slip further and remained at 7th position with 24.36% PCT. The Three Lions have lost 8 matches out of the 13 they have played, winning just 4 and drawing one in ICC WTC cycle.

Tom Latham’s side, after this win, are very well in contention for qualifying for the final of the WTC once again. The last time they qualified for the final, they won against India, earning the maiden WTC title. New Zealand has played 6 matches, winning four matches, drawing one, and losing one.
