“I would have got him out”: S Sreesanth’s bold claim on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Former India pacer S Sreesanth has made a bold statement as he heaped praise on the teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after Sanjay Manjrekar’s stern warning. Sreesanth claimed that he would have dismissed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi easily when he was asked about his hammering of world-class bowlers in IPL 2026.

The 15-year-old missed out on a chance to create history on June 26 as he was not picked in India’s playing XI for the first T20I match against Ireland. India went with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma at the top, leaving out Vaibhav, and they ended up losing the game by 34 runs in Belfast.

S Sreesanth compares Vaibhav Sooryavanshi with Sachin Tendulkar

Recently, S. Sreesanth has heaped praise on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s fearless approach and credited his family for supporting his incredible rise at such a young age.

S Sreesanth said on ABP News: “If I had been playing against him, I would have dismissed him. Obviously, if I can get Matthew Hayden out, why not Vaibhav Sooryavanshi? Respect to Vaibhav and his family for producing such a fearless young talent.”

The two-time World Cup winner further said that Vaibhav’s confidence reminds him of a young Sachin Tendulkar. He believes that the teenager has the same fearless mindset and urged the team management and selectors to fast-track the Bihar boy.

He also stressed that no player should receive special treatment and that places in the team must always be earned through performances. Sreesanth further noted, “The self-belief Vaibhav has at such a young age reminds me of Sachin Tendulkar.

Sachin was already showing signs of greatness at 15 and was ready for international cricket at a very young age. Vaibhav has shown a similar fearless attitude. Vaibhav should be fast-tracked. The same applies to young fast bowlers. If a 16 or 17-year-old pacer is performing well enough, he should earn his place in the team.”

Vaibhav has the talent to carry Virat-Dhoni-Tendulkar’s legacy forward: Sreesanth

The former Indian fast bowler also predicted a massive future for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, calling him a potential global ambassador for cricket. He feels the teenage prodigy could play a key role in India’s quest for an Olympic gold medal when cricket returns to the Olympics.

Sreesanth said, “I believe Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has the potential to become one of the biggest ambassadors of cricket. With cricket set to be part of the Olympics, he will play a major role in helping India bring an Olympic gold medal home. If that happens, his success could inspire people from countries like China and Germany to follow the game thanks to BCCI and Vaibhav. Players like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma have already taken Indian cricket to great heights, and Vaibhav has the talent to carry that legacy forward.”

Ireland scripts history with first-ever win over India

Meanwhile, Ireland created history by defeating India for the first time in any format with a brilliant 34-run victory in the opening T20I in Belfast. Captain Lorcan Tucker led from the front with a fine half-century as Ireland posted 182/9 before bowling India out for 148.

Before this match, India had won all eight meetings against Ireland across formats. And Shreyas Iyer joined Virat Kohli in unwanted India list after T20I captaincy debut.

However, the hosts produced an outstanding all-round performance to register a famous win and take a 1-0 lead in the two-match T20I series. Ireland will now look to keep the momentum going and complete a series win when the two teams meet in the second T20I on Sunday, June 28.
