ICC announces special matchday takeover at Lord's for Women's T20 World Cup fixture

The International Cricket Council (ICC), along with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), is set to organise a “special matchday takeover” at Lord’s when England and the West Indies play their Women’s T20 World Cup Group 2 match at the venue on June 24 at iconic Lord’s. As UNICEF UK has tied up with ECB “to raise both funds and awareness for UNICEF’s projects supporting children around the world.”

This is a massive step towards the development of cricket and also to gain interest for the underprivileged children who can come and witness a cricket match. In recent years, women’s cricket has developed a lot across the world. The 10th edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is being hosted by England, where the inaugural edition took place in 2009.

Fans will also be able to donate to support UNICEF’s work- Nabhaan Rizwan

However, since then, a lot of things have changed, and now crowds come in large numbers to support their favourite teams and support women cricketers as well. There have been franchise leagues running across the world for women’s cricket as well, from the likes of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia, The Hundred (Women) in England and the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in India.

Nabhaan Rizwan, a two-time BAFTA-nominated actor, will participate in the activity and walk away with the World Cup trophy with former England cricketer Isa Guha. “As a huge cricket fan, I can’t wait to see England play West Indies for this ICC Women’s T20 World Cup game, during which fans will also be able to donate to support UNICEF’s work for every child,” Rizwan said in an ICC statement.

Is a powerful platform to bring people together- ICC

The ICC stated, “The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is a powerful platform to bring people together, and this matchday takeover at Lord’s is an important opportunity to support UNICEF’s life-changing work for children around the world. Through Cricket 4 Good, our partnership with UNICEF continues to show how cricket can create impact beyond the boundary, and we hope fans at Lord’s and those watching globally will get behind this cause on 24 June.”

UNICEF UK Head of Corporate Business Development, Lamis Serroukh, said: “We’re hugely grateful to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 for giving us the opportunity to showcase our partnership, which champions children’s rights and highlights how cricket has the power to unite communities and inspire children on and off the pitch.”

At a time when children are facing serious challenges- Lamis Serroukh

Lamis Serroukh further said, “At a time when children are facing serious challenges across the world, partnerships like this one are vital in ensuring UNICEF can be there for every child, including providing life-saving care and supplies when a disaster or conflict hits, and protecting their right to an education. Every donation from our match takeover today will go towards this life-saving work, so please support us if you can.”

England Women’s National Cricket Team will be up against the West Indies Women’s National Cricket Team. The two teams are currently unbeaten in Group 2 with three wins each, and the winner of Wednesday’s match will surely cement their place at the top of their Group.
