Mumbai Indians could be set for one of the biggest squad overhauls in IPL history. After enduring a six-year title drought and finishing near the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table, the five-time champions are reportedly preparing for a major rebuild ahead of IPL 2027.
According to a report by RevSportz, Hardik Pandya is among the high-profile names whose future is under serious review. The all-rounder, who returned to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2024 and captained the franchise for the last three seasons, is reportedly in advanced talks that could see him leave the franchise.
In a shocking move, Rajasthan Royals have emerged as a potential destination for Hardik Pandya, while Mumbai Indians are believed to be interested in bringing Yashasvi Jaiswal back to his home city. If the discussions materialize, it could become one of the most significant player swaps in IPL history.
Hardik Pandya set to leave Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians’ struggles over the last three seasons have forced the franchise to rethink its future. Under Hardik Pandya’s leadership, MI finished 10th in IPL 2024, improved to fourth place in IPL 2025, and then slipped to ninth in IPL 2026.
While the 2025 season briefly offered hope with a playoff appearance, Mumbai failed to build on that momentum. The franchise won only four of its 14 league matches in IPL 2026 and ended the season with just eight points.
Hardik’s individual returns with the bat have also been modest. He scored 216 runs in IPL 2024, followed by 224 runs in IPL 2025 and 206 runs in IPL 2026. Although his leadership credentials remain respected across the league, Mumbai’s management is reportedly considering a fresh start after three underwhelming campaigns.
The RevSportz report stated that Hardik’s representatives are already engaged in discussions with Rajasthan Royals. The Royals, who recently underwent an ownership transition, are believed to be keen on acquiring a marquee Indian superstar capable of leading the franchise into a new era.
Yashasvi Jaiswal to be traded in for Hardik Pandya?
The biggest reason behind Mumbai’s interest in Yashasvi Jaiswal is their long-term planning at the top of the order.
Rohit Sharma is approaching the final phase of his IPL career, and Mumbai are eager to secure a long-term opening partner for the future. Jaiswal, who developed through Mumbai’s domestic cricket structure before making his name with Rajasthan Royals, fits that profile perfectly.
The left-handed opener has been one of the most consistent Indian batters in the IPL over the last few seasons. He scored 625 runs in IPL 2023, followed by 435 runs in IPL 2024, 559 runs in IPL 2025 and another 427 runs in IPL 2026.
His aggressive style, left-handed presence and age profile make him an attractive option for Mumbai as they look to build their next championship-winning core.
The report further claimed that Rajasthan Royals are motivated to land a marquee signing, which could make Hardik Pandya a central figure in any potential negotiations. While discussions are reportedly ongoing, no final agreement has been reached yet.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Hardik Pandya’s IPL stats
Yashasvi Jaiswal has established himself as one of the premier openers in the IPL. Across 83 matches, he has scored 2,593 runs at an average of 33.67 and a strike rate of 152.79. His record includes two centuries and 18 half-centuries, highlighting his ability to dominate attacks consistently.
Hardik Pandya, meanwhile, remains one of the league’s most accomplished all-rounders. In 162 IPL matches, he has scored 2,955 runs at a strike rate of 146.28 while contributing regularly with both bat and ball. His experience as a title-winning captain and match-winning all-rounder continues to make him one of the most valuable Indian players in the tournament.
With Mumbai Indians expected to conduct a major review meeting in the coming days, the futures of several senior stars could soon become clearer. If the Hardik Pandya-Yashasvi Jaiswal swap eventually goes through, it would mark the beginning of a completely new chapter for both franchises ahead of IPL 2027.
