“Not every dream comes true”: Shreyanka Patil shares emotional note after heartbreaking injury setback

The India Women’s National Cricket Team is currently in England for the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The Women in Blue side were struck with a major injury after star all-rounder Shreyanka Patil was injured in the last game against the Netherlands Women’s National Cricket Team, twisting her ankle while chasing a ball of her own.

Shreyanka Patil was stretchered off the field as she could not stand on her feet. She was later ruled out of the tournament due to the injury she picked up in the game. Prema Rawat has replaced the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder for the rest of the tournament. The former have had big injuries and missed key matches for India previously as well.

Shreyanka Patil suffers career ending injury

Shreyanka Patil picked up the injury while fielding in the sixth over of the Netherlands’ innings after bowling a delivery around the wicket. While running to stop runs, she fell awkwardly while scooping the ball and fell in pain, holding her right ankle.

Shreyanka Patil previously spoke passionately about visiting Lord’s as a spectator in 2025 and imagining winning a World Cup match for India and standing on the famous balcony with the trophy. She strongly believed in manifestation and wanted to put herself in that emotional space, but it was cut short due to the injury she picked up a few days back.

Now, after sustaining the injury, she provided an update on her Instagram account, stating that injuries are never easy and this one has been the hardest, while also showcasing gratitude towards the fans who showered support to her during this difficult phase.

Shreyanka said, “Well, not every dream comes true No injury is easy but this one has hit the hardest. But in these last couple of days, I have been overwhelmed by the love I have received. I have seen so many messages, so many edits, reels and I truly appreciate them all.”

“I know I have enough of you wishing well for me to get through this as well. Not every dream comes true, but I’m not going to stop dreaming! And like I said last year, “heartbroken, but I will fly again.”

History of Shreyanka Patil’s injury

This is not the first time Shreyanka has faced a serious injury; she has a long history of sustaining major knocks. Previously, she was out for a year with a fractured finger during the Asia Cup, though she recovered in time for India’s 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE.

But later on, she suffered Grade 3 shin splints in both legs, which ruled her out for months and forced her to miss the entire 2025 WPL season for RCB. After that, she returned to action against Australia but was yet again ruled out a few days back.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s side will face the South Africa Women’s National Cricket Team on Sunday, and it is a must-win game for both sides, with India having won two out of two sits second in the table. The Proteas cannot afford to lose this match, as they will potentially be knocked out if they lose.
