Relations between India and Bangladesh were at a new low ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup due to geopolitical tensions. Later, political standpoints also influenced cricket. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) refused to travel to India, stating safety and security concerns of cricketers, for the T20 World Cup 2026.
After the incident, which needed the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) intervention to cool down the matter, will India face the Tiger Brigade for a bilateral series? The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia opens his mouth about BCCI’s current standpoint on whether the Indian cricket team will face them in the near future.
Will India face Bangladesh after the drama ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup?
Pushing the ball on the Government of India’s court, Devajit Saikia mentions that BCCI’s duty is to control the cricket-related things only, making comments and making any decision regarding anything under any political scenario is not their job.
For any bilateral series or any multinational tournaments, the board acts as per the government’s directives. If the Indian Government allows the Men in Blue to face Bangladesh, then there will be an India vs Bangladesh match on the card, and if the government says no, then there will be no bilateral game against the nation.
Devajit Saikia clears BCCI’s standpoint
“The BCCI is a cricketing controlling board, and we have nothing to do with what is going on politically in other countries. As the BCCI, we follow whatever policy the Government of India has in place regarding participation in bilateral and multinational sporting events. Whatever regulations and policies the central government frames, we follow them, just like any other sports federation, whether it is football, athletics, or any other sport,” the BCCI secretary stated clearly.
He further mentions the board is not bothered by the government that is running a particular country. If there is a scheduled tour to a foreign country for bilateral contests, they will take steps according to the rules.
“We are not concerned with who is running the government in a particular country, whether it is democratically elected, undemocratically elected, or an autocratic government. That is none of our business. Our job is to run cricket. Whenever there is a scheduled tour to a foreign country for bilateral matches, we will proceed according to our plans and schedule,” Saikia added.

BCB is trying to restore the relationship
Meanwhile, the current officials of the Bangladesh cricket board are eager to maintain a healthy competition with India and with the Indian cricket board. Former Bangladesh cricket team captain and the newly appointed President of BCB, Tamim Iqbal, has previously said that he would like to maintain a healthy relationship with their neighbouring nation.
Earlier this month, it was widely reported that BCB, under the leadership of Tamim, is working actively to restore its relationship with BCCI so that it can play bilateral matches in the near future. For a long time, before being appointed as the president of the board, he has been a key figure who publicly advocated for better cricketing ties between the two nations.
