The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) breaks the silence over Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s on-field heated moment with a Sri Lanka A team cricketer during the Tri-Nation ODI series in the island nation.
There were multiple claims across social media platforms suggesting BCCI could take strict steps to teach the 15-year-old a lesson. The board secretary, Devajit Saikia, has denied all of those claims about possible steps against the batter.
Will BCCI take action against Vaibhav Sooryavanshi?
Devajit Saikia says that taking steps against a player’s behavior during a match is completely in the domain of the match referee. If the match referee wants to take some steps, he can, but there is nothing to do with BCCI, as BCCI has no right to take steps against any of their players based on such incidents.
“The BCCI is not the authority in such matters. We should not intrude into an area where the match referee and the umpires are the primary officials empowered to make decisions regarding incidents that occur on the field of play,” Saikia told the news agency PTI through a video.
