Manoj Tiwary points out 'massive lack of clarity' despite India's win over Afghanistan

India claimed an emphatic win against Afghanistan in Lucknow, thanks to the centuries from the skipper, Shubman Gill, and Ishan Kishan’s blade. Along with the win, there are some criticisms which has came along with the Indian cricket team.

For the second of the three-match ODI series, the Indian team management made some changes in the playing eleven. One of the major changes they made was the change in Shubman Gill’s batting position. Gill demoted himself to number three to place Yashasvi Jaiswal in the team to open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma.

Shubman Gill scored 154 off 110 in Lucknow

While the captain himself registered 154 off 110 and claimed the Player of the Match award, Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for only 4 runs. Rohit Sharma claimed 48. The sudden changes in the batting order have attracted some criticism after the match.

Former India batter Manoj Tiwary claims that it was good to see Yashasvi Jaiswal back in the team again as an opener, but Shubman Gill as the number three batter lacked clarity to Manoj Tiwary.

Tiwary raises a valid question, as Gill has scored a hundred from the third position, will he get back to the opening place? As the question is there, the team management’s next possible move is unclear. And as there is uncertainty, it lacks clarity as well, according to the former cricketer.

Rohit Sharma’s form could also play a vital role here in shaping the playing eleven. If he is unable to score runs as per the expectations of the team management, will he remain in the line-up? This is another point raised by Manoj Tiwary.

I see a massive lack of clarity: Manoj Tiwary

“If they open with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma and demote Shubman Gill. Now, if he scores runs there, he will be thinking. “Should I go back to the top or not? So, I have no idea what they are trying to do at all,” the former cricketer said during a discussion session with Cricbuzz.

“I see a massive lack of clarity here, but it feels good to see Jaiswal play, because he deserves to play all formats. If Rohit Sharma somehow doesn’t fire today, then there will be a lot of mental pressure from the outside,” he added.

A commanding win for India

By winning two matches in a row, Team India has already captured the three-match ODI series with one more match to play. On June 17, the home team outclassed the visitors in all departments at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.

Batting first, India scored 402 runs, and Afghanistan managed only 232 runs for ten wickets, a 170-run victory for the Men in Blue. Shubman Gill was named the best player of the match for scoring 154.

Ishan Kishan, who came to bat as the number 4 batter, claimed 125 off 79. With the ball, too, the hosts were far ahead of the Afghanistan cricket team. Pacers Arshdeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar took 3 wickets each, and a brace for the debutant seamer Prince Yadav.
