Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Ashok Sharma got a call from the national team selectors to join the India A team in Sri Lanka for the ongoing tri-nation ODI series against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Ashok Sharma will join the camp as the injury replacement.
It has been learnt that Yudhvir Singh has ruled himself out of the series because of an injury, and to replace him, the board has summoned the 23-year-old Gujarat Titans pacer.
Ashok Sharma had a memorable outing with the Gujarat Titans
Ashok Sharma was among the few uncapped Indian pacers who impressed with pace and well-controlled bowling in the IPL 2026 season. Sharma caught eyes instantly when he showed his ability to deliver the balls at 150 KMPH. In the 2026 season with the franchise from Gujarat, the emerging seamer took 6 wickets from 6 matches and as many innings for an economy rate of 10.85.
The economy rate was on the higher side, but it was his skills to take wickets in crucial moments, and the express speed made him separate from the other pacers at the same level.
The right-arm pacer received the update a day after switching his domestic team from Rajasthan to Gujarat. The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) has given him the No Objection Certificate (NOC). He has changed his domestic base in search of a better opportunity.
“For better opportunities, I decided to move to Gujarat,” Ashok told the media.
He was with KKR and the Rajasthan Royals before joining GT
Ashok Sharma’s talent was recognized long ago, when the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) signed him for INR 55 lakh ahead of the IPL 2022 season. Without offering any game time, the franchise released him.
At the mega auction, Sharma joined the Rajasthan Royals for a price of INR 30 lakh. Before joining KKR, he was the net bowler of the Royals. In Royals, again, the emerging seamer left without any game time.
After spending time with the Rajasthan Royals, the Gujarat Titans roped him in at the mini auction, and finally, Ashok Sharma made his IPL debut in 2026. The first season was good for him as he picked some crucial wickets for the team, which finished as the runner-up as they were defeated against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the summit clash in Ahmedabad.
Pat Cummins’ tips helped Sharma to develop his bowlings
Australian pacer Pat Cummins left his impression on the Indian pacer. Cummins advises Sharma to keep trusting in the strength
“In 2022, I spent a lot of time with Pat Cummins. I spoke to him about lengths and what I could do better. He asked me a simple question: ‘What is your strength?’ Every bowler has one. Some swing it, some seam it. He asked me what I felt my strength was. I told him I could hit a hard length at a good pace. He told me to stick to that. Whenever I practise, I remember his words. They still echo in my ears,” Ashok said in an interview with the Times of India.
