Ajinkya Rahane mocks West Indies cricketers’ IQ, indirectly calls them brainless

Out-of-favour Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane has made a controversial statement, as he claimed that the West Indian cricketers are never much into planning things out; however, his way of putting things has resulted in a massive controversy, with several fans taking a stance against the supposed ‘racist’ comment.

Cricket has been the most talked-about sport in India in recent years, and opining on cricket has been as easy as fetching water from a well. With numerous platforms to provide an insight into the game and to launch one’s thoughts, the former players, experts and cricket pundits have gone all savage and unfiltered many times.

This time the gun is on out-of-favour Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane, who has been caught up while making a deliberate racist comment during an appearance alongside Dinesh Karthik on Cricbuzz live alongside Saiyami Kher.

Ajinkya Rahane dropped a poor comment on West Indian players

During the show, the presenter Saiyami Kher spoke to the two Indian cricketers about the West Indies team, after they had defeated the mighty English side in their second game in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

During the conversation, Ajinkya Rahane can be heard claiming that the West Indies players are not the ones who think too much. He said, “I don’t think West Indians think too much about the game. They are not too much into planning. They are not too sure. I love to watch their celebrations when they are doing very well on the field. It’s a very good side.”

Hearing this, many have caught this as a racist comment; however, the intention of the Mumbai cricketer Ajinkya Rahane could have also been just to highlight the fact that West Indies players believe in playing the game with intent rather than abiding by chalked-out theories or strategies.

Fans take a dig at Ajinkya Rahane for defamatory remarks

After this clip went viral on social media, some fans considered it a racist attack on the West Indies team. They felt as if Ajinkya Rahane had pointed out the Windies cricketers to be brainless.

He has hence been bashed up in all ways, as some claimed that this was not expected from him, and some have come forward to say that he has now turned into an “obnoxious loudmouth radical.” Another fan mentioned that the West Indies could, in turn, defeat hosts India later in the tournament and then mock them using a crossed version of this statement.

West Indies were the Champions when the T20 World Cup was last hosted by India

The last time the ICC T20 World Cup was hosted in India was a decade back in 2016, and in that edition of the tournament, the Windies got to their second World T20 title, defeating the English in the final. The famous Carlos Braithwaite quadruple sixes were hit during that game.

Daren Sammy was the skipper of the side back then and now serves as the coach of the team. Even before that, the West Indies were crowned the champions in 2012, when the ICC T20 World Cup was hosted by Sri Lankans. They had defeated the Indians in the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2016.
