Mohammad Amir to make retirement U-turn if Babar Azam wins Pakistan match vs India

Babar Azam has been mercilessly trolled by Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Amir, and Rashid Latif on a live TV show ahead of the India vs Pakistan Group. A clash of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday, February 15, at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

Pressure mounts on Babar Azam at T20 World Cup 2026

Babar Azam, once seen as the future Pakistan icon, is now facing serious pressure. The former Pakistan captain is fighting to keep his place in the team during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. With the big match against India coming up on Sunday, all eyes are on him.

Speaking about Babar’s performance, his struggles continue in the T20Is even after returning to the format. After hitting only fifty in the home series against Australia, Babar scored only 15 runs from 18 balls and looked out of touch during Pakistan’s hard-fought victory against the Netherlands.

However, the former Pakistan skipper’s performance in the next Group A match against the USA improved as he scored 46 runs from 32 balls. It was a positive effort, but many still feel it was not enough from a player of his level, and the criticism reached the next level on a live TV show.

Babar Azam trolled on Live TV before India clash

During a live TV discussion in Pakistan, Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Amir, and Rashid Latif made fun of Babar’s chances against India. Shehzad said that he would arrange food for everyone in the audience and even the support staff if Babar plays a match-winning knock against India.

Ahmed Shehzad said, “The crowd coordinator won’t have to get food that day. The whole team will get food.” The anchor of the show then raised the stakes even higher.

He said on behalf of Amir, “If Babar, let’s say, with a strike rate of 160… Yes. Keep it like that. If he plays innings with a strike rate of 160 and helps Pakistan win, Amir will take his retirement back. If he plays big innings with a strike rate of 160, then.”

He doesn’t even bat that long: Rashid Latif mocks Babar

The discussion did not stop there. The conditions were adjusted slightly, as Shehzad intervened and said, “Let’s be realistic. If he plays a match-winning inning with a strike rate of 150 and scores 50 plus, then all these conditions are on.”

Later, Amir agreed to Shehzad’s condition. And Rashid Latif added more fuel to the fire by joking that Babar does not even bat long enough to meet such conditions.

Latif said, “He doesn’t even bat that long,” and the studio burst into laughter, with the discussion turning into pure mockery of Babar Azam.

Notably, Babar Azam is known for his strong technique and steady batting. His patience and control help him do well in tests and ODIs, but T20 cricket is faster and more aggressive. Teams now expect batters to score quickly and hit big shots from the start.

And that’s where Babar is lagging behind, and many felt Babar’s style is a bit slow for modern T20s. Fans and cricket pundits often question his strike rate, and that issue was quite evident in this event as well.
