India opener Mayank Agarwal will miss the Trent Bridge Test with concussion after he was hit in the head by a Mohammed Siraj bouncer in the nets two days before the match.

The incident occurred early in Agarwal’s batting session. He was immediately surrounded by team-mates, including Siraj and the coaching staff. A little while later, Agarwal walked out alongside the physio Nitin Patel. He was seen holding the back of his head as he walked off.

Agarwal was set to play the Test after regular opener Shubman Gill went home with a shin injury. KL Rahul and uncapped Bengal batter Abhimanyu Easwaran are two primary options available for the team management to replace Agarwal.

Rahul batted in the nets on Monday alongside Hanuma Vihari in the set following Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant. Easwaran, too, had a session, albeit in the side nets where he faced the throwdown specialist.
