AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn and Chris Morris will move closer to their Test returns when they play for the South African Invitation XI against Zimbabwe in a three-day warm-up match ahead of the Boxing Day Test. Temba Bavuma is the other Test player who has been included in the squad.

De Villiers and Steyn are expected to make their comebacks to the Test team this summer, with South Africa scheduled to play eight Tests at home, starting with the Zimbabwe fixture. That will be followed by a three-Test series against India and four against Australia.

De Villiers has not played a Test since January 2016 with his absence a combination of injury layoff and sabbatical while Steyn has not played any international cricket in over a year, since he broke his shoulder in the first Test against Australia last November. Steyn made his comeback in the ongoing Ram Slam T20 competition, where Morris, who suffered a lower-back injury in England in July, also returned.
