Fifties from Mominul Haque and Mahmudullah led Bangladesh’s resistance and helped them avoid the follow on in reply to South Africa’s 496 for 3 declared. The tourists were 308 for 8 at tea, after losing Mahmudullah and Taskin Ahmed to the second new ball.
Morne Morkel struck off the first delivery of the second new ball, finding extra bounce and having Sabbir Rahman chop onto the stumps for 30 off 46 balls. Temba Bavuma’s brilliance at backward point then set up the run out of Taskin Ahmed in the next over.
