Dolphins opened up the gap at the top of the points table with a 118-run drubbing of Lions in Potchefstroom. Dolphins have 24 points from eight games – No. 2 Warriors have 17 in seven, and No. 3 Titans have 14 in six and can catch up with Dolphins if they win their next two matches.

Dolphins were inserted by Lions, who are languishing at No. 5 on the table, and were given a cracking start by Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Morne van Wyk. The pair added 162 in under 25 overs, before van Wyk was bowed for 54 by Dwaine Pretorius. Van Jaarsveld kept going a bit longer, spanking 108 off 77 with 14 fours and three sixes before Andile Phehlukwayo put on the finishing touches (64 off 47).

Dolphins finished with 344 for 7, and much like their batsmen, their bowlers did the job from the outset, knocking over Lions’ top three inside the first ten. Lions could not recover from that shaky start, falling to 110 for 8. A knock of 98 from Dominic Hendricks managed to get them to a more respectable score, but they were still bowled out in the 43rd over for 226. New-ball bowlers Robbie Frylinck and Rabian Engelbrecht, and the spin of Imran Tahir, did the bulk of the damage.
