Cross inspires EWA past Australia A

England Women’s Academy made it two wins from two in their tour of Sri Lanka after claiming a seven-wicket win over Australia A.

Kate Cross ripped through Australia’s top-order, finishing with figures of 4-12, as England restricted the Shooting Stars to 148 all out after losing the toss.

All five of England’s batsmen would then make sizeable contributions, Eve Jones and Georgia Adams top-scoring with 38 respectively, to help England cruise to their target of 149.

Australia got off to a poor start with opener Sophie Molineux caught and bowled by Cross for nought before the Lancashire seamer grabbed the wickets of Tahlia McGrath and Ashleigh Gardner, reducing them to seven for three.

Bridget Patterson helped restore their innings with 38 but wickets continued to tumbled as Beth Langston and Sophie Luff bagged a pair of wickets each.

Openers Jones and Emma Lamb steered England to 70 without loss before losing two quick wickets.

Fran Wilson, who hit a century in their 75-run victory over Sri Lanka A, hit 26 but despite falling to Nicola Hancock, Luff and Adams guided England home.
