Windies women secure semi-final spot

Deandra Dottin starred with the bat and ball to lead West Indies into the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 semi-finals with a three-run victory over hosts India.

Dottin and captain Stafanie Taylor hit 45 and 47 respectively as they helped Windies recover from 26 for three. Both were the only batswomen to post double figures in their innings after India won the toss and chose to bowl.

Harmanpreet Kaur took 4-23 and Anuja Patil claimed 3-16 as the hosts restricted West Indies to 114 for eight.

India needed a win to keep their World T20 hopes alive but their run-chase got off to a shaky start with Mithali Raj caught behind for a first-ball duck off Shamilia Connell.

Patil top-scored with 26 but Dottin held her nerve, taking two of her three wickets in the final over as India were knocked out of the tournament.

The Windies will now play New Zealand in the semi-finals on Thursday after England beat Pakistan in Group B.
