Afghanistan seek final hurrah

West Indies captain Darren Sammy decided to bowl against Afghanistan in Nagpur because he did not want to change the strategy that has been working for his side in this World T20. West Indies have won all their group matches chasing.

Chris Gayle was rested and was replaced by Evin Lewis, who made his T20I debut. Afghanistan made two changes – Usman Ghani and Hamid Hassan came in for Noor Ali Zadran and Shapoor Zadran.

“This is step No 4,” Sammy said when talking about not taking Afghanistan lightly despite making the semi-finals with this game in hand. This is the first time West Indies are playing Afghanistan in an international.

Having beaten England, Sri Lanka and South Africa, West Indies are guaranteed top spot in Group 1 unless they lose to Afghanistan by an improbable margin. They are all but set to play their semi-final in Mumbai, against either Australia or India.

Afghanistan 1 Mohammad Shahzad (wk), 2 Usman Ghani, 3 Asghar Stanikzai (capt), 4 Gulbadin Naib, 5 Rashid Khan, 6 Mohammad Nabi, 7 Samiullah Shenwari, 8 Najibullah Zadran, 9 Shafiqullah, 10 Amir Hamza, 11 Hamid Hassan

West Indies 1 Johnson Charles, 2 Evin Lewis, 3 Andre Fletcher, 4 Marlon Samuels, 5 Dwayne Bravo, 6 Andre Russell, 7 Darren Sammy (capt), 8 Carlos Brathwaite, 9 Denesh Ramdin, 10 Samuel Badree, 11 Sulieman Benn
