Essex add Dixon to bowling attack

Essex have boosted their bowling options ahead of the new season after signing Australian paceman Matt Dixon on a two-year deal subject to ECB registration approval.

The 23-year-old, who holds a British passport, will be available across all formats and joins the likes of New Zealand international Adam Milne and Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz at the Essex County Ground.

In his short cricketing career, Dixon has featured in Australia’s Under-17 and U19 sides as well as playing in the Big Bash League for Perth Scorchers, where he claimed the scalps of Luke Wright and Kevin Pietersen in their final group game.

Essex head coach Chris Silverwood is pleased to have added to his bowling options.

“Matt is a talented young man who bowls at a really good pace,” Silverwood said.

“He adds depth to our squad, as you need a number of seamers in a squad to be able to compete on all three fronts, as we plan to.”
