Chappell sticks with Leicestershire

Emerging all-rounder Zak Chappell has signed a contract extension at Leicestershire.

The 19-year-old will now remain at the Fischer County Ground, Grace Road until at least the end of the 2017 campaign.

Chappell hit the headlines last season when he struck 96 from number 10 on his Leicestershire first-class debut, against Derbyshire in their last County Championship match.

Zak Chappell showed what he was capable of when hitting 96 on his Leicestershire first-class debut

Elite performance director Andrew McDonald said: “Zak is a highly-talented young cricketer who showed what he was all about during the game at Derbyshire last season.

“He played beautifully with the bat and we were all sitting on the balcony willing him on to make a hundred.

“Zak then showed real promise with the ball too and we are encouraged by his progress.

“Zak has worked extremely hard on his game over the winter and we are looking forward to seeing him continue his development over the next two seasons.”
