At stumps on the fourth and penultimate day, ROI, who conceded a huge first innings lead of 297, were 100 for the loss of opener KS Bharat’s (42) wicket to whittle down the lead to 380.

Vidarbha’s Faiz Fazal (41) and Sudip Chatterjee (17) of Bengal were the unbeaten ROI batsmen who will carry on the run chase on Thursday at the Brabourne Stadium.

Earlier Mumbai, who did not enforce follow on and resumed on Wednesday at their overnight second innings score of 2 for 1, were shot out for 182 in 51.2 overs – mainly by the efforts of spin-pace combine of Jayant Yadav (4 for 93) and Jaydev Unadkat (3 for 16).

Jay Bista, who notched up his maiden first class hundred in the first innings, made 38, Suryakumar Yadav got 49 in 76 balls and Siddhesh Lad top-scored with 60, his second half century of the match, in 109 balls.

Chasing the daunting victory target, ROI got off to a good start of 66 before Bharat was castled by left-arm slow bowler Iqbal Abdullah off the 73rd ball that he faced.

Fazal and Chatterjee, both of whom struck four fours, added 34 runs for the unbroken second wicket when the day’s play drew to a close.
