Somerset have smashed their previous sales record as fans rushed to get their hands NatWest T20 Blast tickets.

Over 5,500 tickets to witness Chris Gayle in action at the Cooper Associates County Ground were sold in the space of seven hours on Monday – the first day of sales.

Commenting on the unprecedented numbers, Somerset’s head of commercial operations Jez Curwin said: “We’re staggered by the level of support that we’ve seen for the club today.

“To put it into context, we sold twice as many NatWest T20 Blast tickets today than we did last year on the day that we announced that Chris Gayle would be joining us.

“There are still tickets available for all of our home matches but today’s remarkable sales highlight the importance of getting your tickets as soon as you can!”
